Manual Planning (Russian Rotation): What It Means

In this document you will learn what Manual Planning (Russian Rotation) means in Attendico and how date-based shift assignments work without a fixed automatic cycle. In ATS Cloud, the group setting is explicitly labelled Manual Planning (Russian Rotation). It means that a planner can assign a shift or a day off separately for each date, instead of relying on the group’s automatic rotation settings.

What is this feature used for?

This scheduling mode allows you to create and manage work schedules based on specific dates. It provides the flexibility to organize shifts according to your company’s working arrangements and scheduling requirements.

Before you begin

  • Create a shift group and enable Manual Planning.
  • Save the group, then add the shifts that can be assigned.
  • Create workers assigned to the group and an initial shift.
  • The group cannot have automatic rotation enabled at the same time.

Options and fields explained

Manual Planning
Switches the group to day-by-day scheduling.
Plan Rotation
Opens the manual schedule editor in Planner.
Shift / Day Off
The choice made for each date in the manual editor.
Always Keep This Shift
A worker-level exception: the selected fixed shift continues to be generated automatically even within a manually planned group.

Step-by-step procedure

  1. Open Shifts and Groups and create or edit a group.
  2. Switch on Manual Planning (Russian Rotation) and save.
  3. Open the group and define the shift choices it needs.
  4. Assign workers to the group in Workers.
  5. Open Planner and select the group.
  6. Choose the date range and click Show.
  7. Click Plan Rotation, choose a worker and enter a shift or Day Off for the relevant dates.
  8. Save and inspect the resulting grid.

What happens after saving?

After saving, dates configured manually can be reviewed in Planner. Workers configured to always keep the same shift may follow their fixed shift instead.

Important notes and common mistakes

  • The UI limits a single manual-plan operation to a maximum of 366 days.
  • For a particular Russian-style pattern, verify the intended day/night/rest sequence with the administrator before entering it; the source code does not establish a universal preset.

Verification required before approval

Verify with an actual scheduling example whether the intended Russian shift pattern needs a repeated manual sequence, specific shift definitions or another configuration.
