Switching a Shift Group Between Manual Planning and Automatic Rotation

Each shift group has planning settings that determine whether its workers follow automatic rotation or have their dates planned manually. The two modes are mutually exclusive in the editor.

What is this option for?

Change the mode when the scheduling method for a team has genuinely changed, not merely to correct one employee’s individual day.

Before you begin

  • Save the group and create its required shifts.
  • Review existing planned days and affected worker assignments before changing the group-wide scheduling mode.

Understanding the controls

Manual Planning (Russian Rotation)
Uses date-by-date assignment through Planner.
Rotating Group
Uses a repeating shift sequence and interval.
Always Keep This Shift
Worker-specific exception to both planning approaches.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Open Shifts and Groups and select the existing group.
  2. Review Planning Settings and the current mode.
  3. To move to manual planning, enable Manual Planning; automatic rotation cannot remain enabled.
  4. To move to automatic rotation, disable Manual Planning.
  5. Ensure at least two shifts exist and enable Rotating Group.
  6. Configure the mode, interval and rotation sequence.
  7. Save the group.
  8. Open Planner and verify several dates for both ordinary and fixed-shift workers.

What happens next?

The group’s saved planning mode changes the mechanism used to produce its schedule.

Important notes

  • Changing a group-wide option may affect many employees; test it with a representative schedule first.
