How to Create a Shift and Define Its Working Hours

In this document you will learn how to create a shift and define its working hours in Attendico ATS Cloud. Configure start and end times, working days, breaks and shift calculation settings. A shift is the actual working-time definition inside a shift group. It describes when work starts and ends, which days are working days, when breaks occur and how tolerance or rounding is handled.

What is this feature used for?

A shift is required because employees are assigned not only to a group but also to a current shift. Without a shift, the Workers form will refuse to save a new worker.

Before you begin

  • A saved shift group. If you have not created one yet, start with the guide How to Create a Shift Group.
  • You should know the expected start time, end time and regular working days for this shift.

Options and fields explained

Shift Name and Shift Code
Identify this shift inside the group and in the planner.
Start Time / End Time
Default working-time boundaries for the shift.
First Day of Week
The shift’s own first working-day reference; this is separate from the automatic rotation reference day.
Break Start / Break End and Break Paid
Describe the break and whether it counts as paid working time.
Working Days
Enable individual days, and optionally override the default hours for a particular weekday.
Calculation Rules
Allowed late minutes, allowed early-leave minutes and minimum recognized time increment.

Step-by-step procedure

  1. Open Shifts and Groups and open the group that should contain the shift.
  2. In Shifts in Group select Create Shift. The action is unavailable until the group has been saved.
  3. Enter Shift Name and Shift Code.
  4. Enter the default Start Time and End Time and choose the First Day of Week.
  5. In Break Settings, add a break interval if needed and decide whether Break Paid should be enabled.
  6. Under Working Days, mark the days on which this shift is normally worked.
  7. If one day has a different timetable, expand that day, enable Custom Working Time and enter its own start, end and break times.
  8. Review Calculation Rules, then click Save.
  9. Confirm that the new shift appears in Shifts in Group. It is now available when creating or editing a worker.

What happens after saving?

Workers may now be assigned to this shift through their Current Shift field. When the group has two or more shifts, automatic rotation becomes an available configuration.

Important notes and common mistakes

  • A working day can inherit the default hours or use its own hours; do not change global shift times merely to adjust one weekday.
  • If a night shift crosses midnight, ensure the chosen start and end times reflect the intended schedule and review the planner output.
