In this document you will learn what shift groups are and why Attendico uses them to organize worker schedules, shift definitions and rotation rules. A shift group is a container for one or more shift definitions. It tells ATS Cloud which working-time patterns belong together and how workers assigned to the group should be scheduled.
What is this feature used for?
Groups are necessary because different teams can work different schedules. A company could have separate groups for office staff and production staff, while individual shifts inside each group define actual working hours. Groups also hold the automatic-rotation or manual-planning setting.
Before you begin
- You can create an empty group first; shifts are added only after the group has been saved.
- Before adding a worker, create at least one shift inside the group. The worker form requires both a group and a current shift.
Options and fields explained
- Group Name
- A recognizable group label used throughout the interface.
- Group Code
- A code retained in historical attendance and schedule snapshots.
- Description
- Optional context that helps administrators distinguish groups.
- Manual Planning
- Schedules dates manually in Planner rather than using automatic group generation for all workers.
- Rotating Group
- Automatically moves workers through a configured sequence of shifts. Requires at least two saved shifts.
Step-by-step procedure
- Open Shifts and Groups from the navigation.
- Review Groups Overview: each row represents a group, not an individual shift.
- Select an existing group to inspect its group data and Shifts in Group list.
- Observe the Planning Settings: a group can be manually planned or automatically rotated, subject to prerequisites.
- To establish a new team, choose Add Group, enter its details and save it.
- Reopen the saved group to create the first shift.
- Only after a shift exists should you create a worker assigned to that group.
What happens after saving?
A group with a saved shift is ready to be used in a worker profile. Rotation and manual-planning choices control how future schedule entries are generated.
Important notes and common mistakes
- Do not confuse a shift group with a shift. A group represents the scheduling arrangement; a shift defines working times and calculation settings.
- Automatic rotation is disabled when Manual Planning is enabled.
